How do I enable SSI (Server Side Includes) on IIS 7.x (1&1 dedicated sever) ?

Last updated: 02/08/2012

By default, SSI was not enabled or installed on my dedicated server.  After some hunting, I found this sequence to get it working:

Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off (left side link)

This opens up the Server Manager.

In Server Manager, go to Roles -> Web Server (IIS)

Highlight "Server Side Includes"

Click "Add Role Services" (Right side).

After installing, you'll have to go into IIS and create a mapping for .html / .htm or whatever file extensions you want to use SSI.  (Handler Mappings)

OR - if you are using Plesk - go to:

Server -> Server Components -> Refresh (click)

Then go to the website / domain in question and check the SSI button in the settings area.
